چکیده

Pseudohypoparathyroidism is a rare inherited metabolic disorder that associated with parathormone resistance. Low serum calcium, high phosphates and raised levels suggesting resistance are biochemical characteristic features of . type 1 known as Albright’s hereditary osteodystrophy characterized by typical phenotype. This syndrome encompasses multiple clinical findings such brachydactyly, rounded face, short stature, central obesity, variable degrees mental retardation. Here, we present patient pseudohypoparathyroidism which cause hypocalcemia

A rare cause of hypocalcemia

BACKGROUND Many factors influence serum calcium concentration, but the major determinants of calcium homeostatsis are parathyroid hormone (PTH), vitamin D, the ionized calcium, and phosphate [1]. Therefore, deranged calcium metabolism is often seen in the presence of disordered parathyroid hormone (PTH) and/or vitamin D actions. Among these causes is end-organ resistance to the biological effec...

Pseudohypoparathyroidism, rare cause of hypocalcaemia!

Pseudohypoparathyroidism is a rare disorder which is characterized by end organ parathormone resistance, which causes hypocalcaemia, hyperphosphataemia and high parathormone levels. We are reporting here case of a young male who had symptoms of chronic hypocalcaemia, with a positive Trousseau's and Chvostek's sign on examination, without any features of Albright's hereditary osteodystrophy. Lab...

Pseudohypoparathyroidism: a rare but important cause of hypocalcaemia.

We present a 46-year-old Caucasian lady with symptomatic hypocalcaemia. Investigations revealed markedly raised parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels with vitamin D deficiency. A number of conditions causing secondary hyperparathyroidism were ruled out from her medical history and initial investigations. The main differential diagnoses were vitamin D deficiency and PTH resistance (pseudohypoparathyr...

1,25-Dihydroxycholecalciferol deficiency: the probable cause of hypocalcemia and metabolic bone disease in pseudohypoparathyroidism.

Pseudohypoparathyroidism (PsH) is a genetic disease characterized by hypocalcemia, hyperphosphatemia, and metabolic unresponsiveness to parathyroid hormone (PTH). The administration of PTH elicits neither a significant rise in serum calcium (calcemic response) nor a decrease in the renal tubule reabsorption of phosphorus (phosphaturic response). The diminished phosphaturic response is due to an...

Osteopoikilosis: a rare cause of bone pain

Background: Osteopoikilosis (OPK) is a rare inherited condition of the bones, transmitted as an autosomal dominant trait characterized by numerous hyperostotic areas that tend to localize in periarticular osseous regions. It is usually asymptomatic and is often diagnosed incidentally during x-rays made by other reasons. We present a case of 34-year-old man suffering from polyarthralgia an...
